The stakes

Why reviews decide plastic surgery practice revenue

The digital front door to every plastic surgery practice is its review profile. Here's what's at stake.

93%

of cosmetic patients cross-reference at least three review sources

One bad RealSelf review can override a spotless Google profile in an elective buyer's decision loop.

$18k

average procedure value lost per abandoned consult

In elective care, a filtered listing is a filtered pipeline. A 4.6-star average is not enough.

HIPAA + FTC

before-and-after posts are a compliance minefield

We handle consent, disclosure, and platform-specific rules so your content stays live and lawful.

How buyers decide

When a cosmetic surgery patient decides

Elective surgery is researched for weeks and cancelled in a minute. The crisis cards above note that most cosmetic patients cross-reference at least three review sources, and one review about a bad result on any of them can outweigh a spotless Google profile.

  1. 01

    The result-specific search

Prospects look for reviews that mention the procedure they want. A review describing a botched version of that exact procedure, whether it was ever performed at your practice or not, ends the research for that patient.

  2. 02

    The revision and refund dispute

Reviews written during a revision negotiation are often written as leverage. A review that offers to be changed in exchange for a free revision or a refund violates every platform's conflict-of-interest rules and is one of the clearer removal cases.

  3. 03

    The RealSelf to Google jump

Patients start on RealSelf and finish on Google. A negative that appears on both looks like a pattern, so a review one person copies across sites does far more damage than its word count suggests.

How we calculate this
  • Star-rating drag on click-through tapers and caps at 18%. Negative sentiment is scored as a share of your total review volume and caps at 20%. Both compound, then apply only to the ~55% of buyers who read reviews and act on them.
  • No correctly typed margin is available for this industry, so the model shows revenue only.
  • Industry-specific benchmark data isn't available for this category yet. The defaults above are example starting values, not verified plastic surgeons averages. Replace them with your own numbers for a closer read.
  • Estimates only. Every market is different.

What the number above means

The consult math for a plastic surgery practice

The crisis card above puts the average procedure value at $18,000 per abandoned consult. A prospect who reads a false review never becomes a consult, so the loss never shows up in your no-show rate. It shows up as a quieter phone.

  • A review that discusses another patient's identity or result is a privacy exposure for the practice as well as a marketing loss, and privacy violations are among the fastest platform removals.
  • Surgeon-named accusations of danger or malpractice with nothing behind them fall under harassment rules on Google and Yelp.
  • Use your average surgical fee in the calculator above, not a consult fee, to see what one lost prospect takes with it.

Stop the leak at the review that causes it

One flat fee per item. Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal. The platform makes the final decision.

We identify defamatory, fake, or ToS-violating reviews and drive them through a documented appeal, escalation, and legal-referral pipeline.

Review Generation That Converts

Buyer psychology

What earns buyer trust in plastic surgeons

When choosing a plastic surgery practice, consumers weigh authentic, high-volume reviews as the deciding signal between you and a competitor a single click away.

Recency wins

Buyers weigh reviews from the last 90 days most heavily. A stale 5-star profile still loses to a competitor with fresh momentum in plastic surgeons.

Volume signals safety

Prospects use raw review count as a proxy for legitimacy. Below 25 reviews, most local buyers filter your listing out entirely.

Response builds trust

How you respond to a 1-star review says more than the review itself. Silence reads as guilt, measured accountability reads as leadership.

One bad review, filtered forever

A single unaddressed 1-star can suppress plastic surgeons local pack rankings and cut click-through by 30% or more.

Compliance-first

ToS-aligned, defensible growth for plastic surgeons

Every workflow, from response to removal filing, is built to keep your Plastic Surgeons business on the right side of platform policy and consumer-protection law. We never post fake reviews, incentivize ratings, or violate directory terms.

The rules that apply to you

What the platforms and regulators actually say about plastic surgeons

Every statement below is sourced. Read them before you decide how to handle a review.

45 CFR 164.508

You cannot answer a false review by proving the person was never a patient

Confirming that someone was or was not treated, in public, is a disclosure of protected health information under the HIPAA Privacy Rule. A practice can post a neutral invitation to talk privately and nothing more, so the accusation stands on the profile until the platform acts on a policy report.

Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Third-party detail

A review that exposes another patient is a privacy violation on every major platform

Reviews that name or describe a different patient, or attach a photo of someone else's result, break the personal-information rule Google publishes for Maps contributions. For a plastic surgery practice these are among the cleanest filings, and the report can flag the violation without repeating the private detail.

Source: Google Maps Help

16 CFR Part 465

Buying reviews to bury a bad one is a federal violation, not a shortcut

Since October 21, 2024 the FTC rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews, insider reviews presented as customer reviews, and paying for positive or negative reviews, with civil penalties available per violation. For a plastic surgery practice that leaves two lawful moves: earn real reviews, and report the ones that break platform policy.

Source: U.S. Federal Trade Commission, 2024

Policy grounds only

Google removes reviews that break a policy, not reviews you dislike

Google's own help documentation says any review can be reported but only content that violates its policies is eligible for removal. That is why a case starts by matching the wording to a named policy: fake engagement, off topic, impersonation, harassment, personal information or conflict of interest.

Timeline

What happens after a plastic surgery practice opens a removal case

Nothing here is a promise of removal, because that decision belongs to the platform. Most Google removals take 7–21 days; Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. Complex cases use a Custom Care Plan with their own timeline.

  1. Day 0 · Free scan and eligibility read

We pull the live review or page from Google and RealSelf and Healthgrades, quote it verbatim, and say which policy it breaks. If nothing breaks a rule we say so and take no fee.

  2. Days 1-3 · Filing without patient information

The report shows the platform why the content breaks its rules without naming a patient or describing treatment, because confirming care publicly is itself a disclosure. What proves the reviewer was never treated stays in the file, not on the profile.

  3. Platform moderation

Google evaluates reports against its prohibited and restricted content policy; most Google removals take 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing.

  4. Days 10-21 · Appeal where the first report is declined

A declined report is not the end. Google provides an appeal route for reviews it decides to keep, and a second filing that cites a different policy ground and better evidence is often what moves it.

  5. Day 30 (Google) / Day 90 (Yelp & other platforms): refund deadline

Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. No claim or form is required. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of the deadline.

Before you start

What a plastic surgery practice needs before starting a removal

The start form takes a few minutes if you have these four things in front of you. Nothing else is required to open the case.

  1. The exact link to the review or page

On Google, open the review, use the three-dot menu and choose Share to copy its direct link. On Yelp, use the share icon under the review. For a harmful page, paste the full URL from the address bar.

  2. Your business name exactly as it appears on the profile

Use the brand name on the Google listing unless the review sits on the surgeon's personal profile. RealSelf and Yelp often list the practice under a slightly different name, so copy each one separately.

  3. Why the item breaks the platform's rules

One or two sentences is enough. Typical grounds for a plastic surgery practice: the reviewer never had a consultation or procedure, the review offers to be changed in exchange for a refund or revision, it names another patient, or it accuses the surgeon of danger with nothing to support it.

  4. Your preferred payment option

Pay upfront: $397 for Google, $697 for Yelp, or $497 for another site or harmful link. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal. Pay upfront. If the specific Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days of payment, we refund the removal fee to your original payment method. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days.

New York rules for plastic surgeons

New York Public Health Law §230-d requires full accreditation for practices that perform office-based surgery under general anesthesia or moderate or deep sedation, and for any liposuction, minor procedures aside. Serious adverse events must be reported to the Health Department.

Education Law §6530 defines physician misconduct. Item 23 covers revealing patient information without prior consent, and item 27 treats advertising with testimonials as not in the public interest.

Our view: New York surgeons can’t rely on testimonials in their own ads, so independent reviews fill that gap. A reply that names patient details risks a misconduct charge, which is why we report false reviews to the platform.

Illinois rules for plastic surgeons

Illinois rule 1285.340 treats any site that is not a hospital or licensed ambulatory surgical treatment center as a physician’s office, and the operating physician there needs anesthesia training unless an anesthesiologist provides it.

Surgeons meet that rule through hospital or surgical center privileges or continuing education: 8 hours per three-year renewal for conscious sedation and 34 hours for deep sedation, regional or general anesthesia. A CRNA in the office needs a written collaborative agreement.

Our view: Illinois patients researching office surgery read reviews closely. When a one-star post looks fake, such as no matching patient or a name tied to a competitor, we document it and report it under the FTC’s fake-review rule.

Texas rules for plastic surgeons

Texas Occupations Code §162.104 has the Texas Medical Board register physicians who give anesthesia, or operate with anesthesia services, in an outpatient setting. Section 162.101 defines that as a setting outside a licensed hospital or licensed ambulatory surgical center.

Chapter 181 of the Health and Safety Code reaches health care providers and website operators that handle protected health information. Penalties run up to $5,000 per negligent violation, $25,000 when knowing or intentional and $250,000 for financial gain.

Our view: those penalty tiers make a detailed public reply a poor bet for a Texas surgeon. Keep responses generic and send reviews that break platform rules through a formal report.

Plastic Surgeons review removal FAQs

A review calls our surgeon dangerous and describes a procedure we never performed. Is that removable?+

Often, yes. A review describing a procedure that never took place at your practice fails the genuine-experience rule, and an unsupported accusation of danger against a named surgeon falls under harassment policy. We quote the specific language in the report. The platform decides, and for upfront payment, the applicable 30-day Google or 90-day Yelp refund applies if the review remains live.

A patient threatened a review unless we gave a free revision, then posted it. What now?+

Keep the message where the threat was made. Reviews used as leverage violate conflict-of-interest rules on Google and Yelp, and a documented threat is one of the strongest reports we can file. We never include the patient's clinical details.

Can you remove a review from RealSelf?+

Self-serve removal covers Google at $397, Yelp at $697 and harmful links such as complaint pages at $497. RealSelf has its own dispute process, and we walk through it with you in a consultation rather than taking a fee for a filing that may have no route.

How long does plastic surgeons review removal typically take?+

Most Google removals: 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms: typically 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing. Complex cases involving defamation, legal escalation, coordinated attacks, or many items across platforms are quoted individually through the Custom Care Plan, with their own timeline.

Do you remove legitimate negative reviews?+

No. We only pursue reviews that violate a platform's Terms of Service: fake, off-topic, defamatory, extortive, or conflict-of-interest. Legitimate complaints are addressed via a response strategy, not deletion.

Is this compliant with FTC and platform policy?+

Yes. Every workflow (outreach, invitations, responses, removal appeals) is aligned with the FTC Endorsement Guides and each platform's ToS. We keep audit-ready logs of every action.

What does plastic surgeons review removal cost?+

Pay upfront: $397 Google, $697 Yelp, or $497 other sites and harmful links.

What if a removal request is denied?+

We escalate through documented appeal channels. Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal.

Every statistic cited inline on this page is drawn from the following industry sources. Citations remain inline alongside each figure so context stays with the claim.

  1. Confirming that someone is a patient, or referencing their treatment, in a public reply is a disclosure of protected health information without authorization. This is why a clinical reply is not a safe answer to a false review.

  2. The policy list a removal report has to cite: fake engagement, off-topic content, impersonation, harassment, personal information and conflicts of interest.

  3. Federal rule effective October 21, 2024. Bans fake or AI-generated reviews, reviews by insiders presented as customers, and buying positive or negative reviews. This is why removal has to be argued on policy grounds instead of countered with bought reviews.

  4. Google's own documentation of the report route: any review can be reported, only reviews that break a content policy are eligible for removal, and the decision is Google's.

  5. How do I report a review?Yelp for Business Support Center

Yelp states that reported content is evaluated by its moderators and that the evaluation may take several days, with an email sent when it is done.
