The stakes

Why reviews decide orthodontist revenue

The digital front door to every orthodontist is its review profile. Here's what's at stake.

4.8★

Multi-Year Trust Threshold

Orthodontic treatment spans 12–36 months: families disqualify practices below 4.8★ before touring, unwilling to commit multi-year care to a middling brand.

76%

Parent-Driven Vetting

76% of pediatric orthodontic inquiries start with a parent searching Google Maps: sub-4.7★ practices are filtered out before the tour request.

1

One Broken-Bracket Complaint

A single 1-star review about brackets, wires, or emergency responsiveness can suppress an entire spring back-to-school inquiry season.

How buyers decide

When an orthodontist prospect decides

Most new patients never call more than one orthodontist. They search, glance at the stars in the map results, read the two newest reviews, and book or move on.

  1. 01

    The map pack glance

Google shows three orthodontists first. A rating a few tenths below the neighbours and a fresh one-star at the top of the list is usually enough to lose the tap, even when the rest of the profile is strong.

  2. 02

    The insurance-and-price check

Patients open the profile to confirm you take their plan and to guess at cost. A review that says "billed me for work I did not agree to" reads as a warning about money, and money complaints keep people from calling.

  3. 03

    The second-opinion search

Before a crown, implant or aligner case, patients cross-check Healthgrades, Zocdoc and Vitals. One angry review that repeats across sites looks like a pattern, even if it was written by someone who was never in your chair.

What the number above means

What one review costs an orthodontist

Dental revenue comes from patients who keep coming back and refer their families. A visible one-star does not lose you one visit. It loses the first visit, the hygiene recalls behind it, and the referrals that never happen.

  • New patients calling about high-value cases (implants, aligners, cosmetic work) read the most reviews and are the quickest to book elsewhere.
  • HIPAA stops you from correcting the record publicly, so the review stands unanswered in the way a restaurant review never would.
  • The calculator above uses your own case value and close rate, so the number it shows is yours, not an industry average.

Stop the leak at the review that causes it

Buyer psychology

What earns buyer trust in orthodontists

When choosing an orthodontist, consumers weigh authentic, high-volume reviews as the deciding signal between you and a competitor a single click away.

Recency wins

Prospects weigh reviews from the last 90 days most heavily. A stale profile still loses to a competing orthodontist with fresh momentum.

Volume signals safety

Below 25 reviews, most local buyers filter an orthodontist out entirely: raw count is the fastest proxy for legitimacy.

Response builds trust

How an orthodontist responds to a 1-star review says more than the review itself. Silence reads as guilt, measured accountability reads as leadership.

One bad review, filtered forever

A single unaddressed 1-star can suppress an orthodontist's local pack rankings and cut click-through by 30% or more.

Compliance-first

ToS-aligned, defensible growth for orthodontists

Every workflow, from response to removal filing, is built to keep your dental practice business on the right side of platform policy and consumer-protection law. We never post fake reviews, incentivize ratings, or violate directory terms.

The rules that apply to you

What the platforms and regulators actually say about orthodontists

Every statement below is sourced. Read them before you decide how to handle a review.

45 CFR 164.508

HIPAA stops the one reply that would settle it

A dental practice cannot say "this person has never been in our chair" in public. Confirming or denying treatment is a disclosure. That single restriction is why an orthodontist that gets a review from a non-patient has to use the platform's policy process rather than the reply box.

Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Genuine experience required

Reviews from people who were never patients are reportable by policy

Google's contributions policy requires content to reflect a genuine experience with the business, and Yelp's guidelines say the same. Non-patient reviews, mistaken-practice reviews and former-employee reviews all fall under that ground.

Source: Google Maps Help

16 CFR Part 465

Buying reviews to bury a bad one is a federal violation, not a shortcut

Since October 21, 2024 the FTC rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews, insider reviews presented as customer reviews, and paying for positive or negative reviews, with civil penalties available per violation. For an orthodontist that leaves two lawful moves: earn real reviews, and report the ones that break platform policy.

Source: U.S. Federal Trade Commission, 2024

Policy grounds only

Google removes reviews that break a policy, not reviews you dislike

Google's own help documentation says any review can be reported but only content that violates its policies is eligible for removal. That is why a case starts by matching the wording to a named policy: fake engagement, off topic, impersonation, harassment, personal information or conflict of interest.

Timeline

What happens after an orthodontist opens a removal case

Nothing here is a promise of removal, because that decision belongs to the platform. Most Google removals take 7–21 days; Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. Complex cases use a Custom Care Plan with their own timeline.

  1. Day 0 · Free scan and eligibility read

We pull the live review or page from Google and Healthgrades and Zocdoc, quote it verbatim, and say which policy it breaks. If nothing breaks a rule we say so and take no fee.

  2. Days 1-3 · Filing without chart detail

The report argues the policy ground and cites the exact wording. No chart, appointment or billing detail goes into it, so nothing about a real patient becomes public while the case runs.

  3. Platform moderation

Google evaluates reports against its prohibited and restricted content policy; most Google removals take 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing.

  4. Days 10-21 · Appeal where the first report is declined

A declined report is not the end. Google provides an appeal route for reviews it decides to keep, and a second filing that cites a different policy ground and better evidence is often what moves it.

  5. Day 30 (Google) / Day 90 (Yelp & other platforms): refund deadline

Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. No claim or form is required. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of the deadline.

Before you start

What an orthodontist needs before starting a removal

The start form takes a few minutes if you have these four things in front of you. Nothing else is required to open the case.

  1. The exact link to the review or page

On Google, open the review, use the three-dot menu and choose Share to copy its direct link. On Yelp, use the share icon under the review. For a harmful page, paste the full URL from the address bar.

  2. Your business name exactly as it appears on the profile

Copy it from your Google Business Profile or your Yelp page, including "DDS", "DMD" or the practice name if that is how the listing reads. Location-specific listings need the matching location name.

  3. Why the item breaks the platform's rules

One or two sentences is enough. Common grounds for an orthodontist: the reviewer was never a patient, the review names a staff member and makes accusations about their character, it was posted by a former employee, or it discloses another patient's information.

  4. Your preferred payment option

Pay upfront: $397 for Google, $697 for Yelp, or $497 for another site or harmful link. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal. Pay upfront. If the specific Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days of payment, we refund the removal fee to your original payment method. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days.

California rules for orthodontists

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is one of the 12 dental specialties recognized by the ADA’s National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties. The Commission describes it as the diagnosis, prevention, interception and correction of malocclusion and of neuromuscular and skeletal abnormalities of the orofacial structures.

Smile photos carry most orthodontic marketing. California Business and Professions Code §651 counts an image as misleading when it does not accurately show the results of the procedure being advertised or has been altered from the actual patient.

Patient privacy rules reach review replies too. The HHS Office for Civil Rights settled with New Vision Dental, a California dental practice, in December 2022 for $23,000 plus a corrective action plan over protected health information it posted while responding to online reviewers.

California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, at Civil Code §56.10, bars a provider of health care from disclosing medical information about a patient without authorization unless an exception applies. Licensed dentists, orthodontists included, fall within the Act’s provider definition in §56.05.

Our view: because orthodontic care spans many visits, reviews often arrive mid-treatment and mention billing or progress. A reply that discusses the case is risky, so we take reviews that break platform rules to Google or Yelp through their reporting process instead.

Orthodontists review removal FAQs

Can you remove a review of an orthodontist from someone who was never a patient?+

Yes, that is one of the strongest cases under Google's and Yelp's rules, both of which require a genuine experience. We document that no appointment, chart or payment record exists for the reviewer and file it under the "not a real experience" policy. We never include patient details in the filing.

Can an orthodontist respond to a review without violating HIPAA?+

You can respond, but you cannot confirm the person was a patient or reference any treatment, even to correct something false. A short neutral reply that invites a private conversation is safe. Removal is the only route that takes the false claim off the profile entirely.

Does removing a review hurt an orthodontists Google ranking?+

No. Removal takes down one review and its rating contribution. There is no ranking penalty for a successful policy report. What does hurt ranking over time is a profile with a rising share of one-star reviews, which is exactly what removal addresses.

How long does orthodontists review removal typically take?+

Most Google removals: 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms: typically 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing. Complex cases are quoted individually through the Custom Care Plan with their own timeline.

Do you remove legitimate negative reviews?+

No. We only pursue reviews that violate a platform's Terms of Service: fake, off-topic, defamatory, extortive, or conflict-of-interest. Legitimate complaints are addressed via a response strategy, not deletion.

Can you remove reviews from non-clients or competitors targeting an orthodontist?+

Yes. Non-client, competitor-planted, and coordinated defamation campaigns targeting orthodontists are among the highest-success ToS-violation categories we successfully remove.

Is this compliant with FTC and platform policy?+

Yes. Every workflow (outreach, invitations, responses, removal appeals) is aligned with the FTC Endorsement Guides and each platform's ToS. We keep audit-ready logs of every action.

How quickly can monitoring find new reviews?+

Monitoring can surface newly published reviews after platform feeds update. It does not promise review volume or ranking changes.

How is pricing structured?+

Removal is priced per item: $397 Google, $697 Yelp, or $497 other sites and harmful links upfront. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal. Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days.

What if a removal request is denied?+

We escalate through documented appeal channels. For upfront payments, the applicable refund applies if the item remains live; Pay upon removal is charged only after documented removal.

Sources for Orthodontists+

Every statistic cited inline on this page is drawn from the following industry sources. Citations remain inline alongside each figure so context stays with the claim.

  1. Confirming that someone is a patient, or referencing their treatment, in a public reply is a disclosure of protected health information without authorization. This is why a clinical reply is not a safe answer to a false review.

  2. The policy list a removal report has to cite: fake engagement, off-topic content, impersonation, harassment, personal information and conflicts of interest.

  3. Federal rule effective October 21, 2024. Bans fake or AI-generated reviews, reviews by insiders presented as customers, and buying positive or negative reviews. This is why removal has to be argued on policy grounds instead of countered with bought reviews.

  4. Google's own documentation of the report route: any review can be reported, only reviews that break a content policy are eligible for removal, and the decision is Google's.

  5. How do I report a review?Yelp for Business Support Center

Yelp states that reported content is evaluated by its moderators and that the evaluation may take several days, with an email sent when it is done.
