The stakes

Why reviews decide HVAC company revenue

The digital front door to every HVAC company is its review profile. Here's what's at stake.

Seasonal peaks

Bad reviews before summer or winter peaks have outsized damage.

How buyers decide

When a homeowner decides on an HVAC company

The crisis cards above describe the pattern: emergency traffic goes to the top-rated shop, and seasonal peaks amplify every review. A one-star that lands the week before a heat wave does its damage during the busiest days of the year.

  1. 01

    The no-heat or no-cool call

A homeowner with a dead system on a hot afternoon calls from the map. The rating and the newest review decide the call, and a fresh accusation of price gouging drops you to the second company on the list.

  2. 02

    The replace-versus-repair fear

The specific fear in HVAC is being told to replace a system that could have been repaired. A review that says exactly that, even from a phone estimate, confirms the fear for every homeowner facing a big quote.

  3. 03

    The install quote comparison

The crisis card above puts an HVAC install at $4,800. Homeowners collect two or three install quotes and use the newest reviews to choose. A copied negative on Google and Angi reads as a pattern.

How we calculate this
  • Star-rating drag on click-through tapers and caps at 18%. Negative sentiment is scored as a share of your total review volume and caps at 20%. Both compound, then apply only to the ~55% of buyers who read reviews and act on them.
  • No correctly typed margin is available for this industry, so the model shows revenue only.
  • Industry-specific benchmark data isn't available for this category yet. The defaults above are example starting values, not verified hvac contractors averages. Replace them with your own numbers for a closer read.
  • Estimates only. Every market is different.

What the number above means

Install and maintenance math for an HVAC company

An install is a large ticket and the maintenance agreement behind it is years of recurring revenue. One visible false review during peak season costs the emergency call, the install that follows it, and the agreement that would have renewed year after year.

  • Reviews from people you never served, from a manufacturer warranty dispute, or from a competing contractor are common and reportable.
  • Reviews that accuse a named technician of sabotaging a system to sell a replacement are a harassment matter under platform rules.
  • Enter your average install ticket in the calculator above, then think about how many peak-season calls one review turns away.

Stop the leak at the review that causes it

Buyer psychology

What earns buyer trust in hvac contractors

When choosing an HVAC company, consumers weigh authentic, high-volume reviews as the deciding signal between you and a competitor a single click away.

Recency wins

Buyers weigh reviews from the last 90 days most heavily. A stale 5-star profile still loses to a competitor with fresh momentum in hvac contractors.

Volume signals safety

Prospects use raw review count as a proxy for legitimacy. Below 25 reviews, most local buyers filter your listing out entirely.

Response builds trust

How you respond to a 1-star review says more than the review itself. Silence reads as guilt, measured accountability reads as leadership.

One bad review, filtered forever

A single unaddressed 1-star can suppress hvac contractors local pack rankings and cut click-through by 30% or more.

ToS-aligned, defensible growth for hvac contractors

Every workflow, from response to removal filing, is built to keep your HVAC Contractors business on the right side of platform policy and consumer-protection law. We never post fake reviews, incentivize ratings, or violate directory terms.

Wrong company

Mistaken-identity reviews are common in the trades and clean to report

Similar company names, shared trade names and franchise territories mean an HVAC company regularly receives reviews about work another company performed. The estimate and dispatch record establishes it, and the filing cites the genuine-experience ground.

Reading the newest first

Homeowners collect a few quotes and read the newest reviews before they call

BrightLocal's 2025 consumer survey tracks how people read local reviews during research, including the weight placed on recent negatives. A fresh one-star at the top of the profile is what a homeowner sees while they are still building the shortlist.

Source: BrightLocal, 2025

16 CFR Part 465

Buying reviews to bury a bad one is a federal violation, not a shortcut

Since October 21, 2024 the FTC rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews, insider reviews presented as customer reviews, and paying for positive or negative reviews, with civil penalties available per violation. For an HVAC company that leaves two lawful moves: earn real reviews, and report the ones that break platform policy.

Source: U.S. Federal Trade Commission, 2024

Policy grounds only

Google removes reviews that break a policy, not reviews you dislike

Google's own help documentation says any review can be reported but only content that violates its policies is eligible for removal. That is why a case starts by matching the wording to a named policy: fake engagement, off topic, impersonation, harassment, personal information or conflict of interest.

Timeline

What happens after an HVAC company opens a removal case

Nothing here is a promise of removal, because that decision belongs to the platform. Most Google removals take 7–21 days; Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. Complex cases use a Custom Care Plan with their own timeline.

  1. Day 0 · Free scan and eligibility read

We pull the live review or page from Google and Yelp and Angi, quote it verbatim, and say which policy it breaks. If nothing breaks a rule we say so and take no fee.

  2. Days 1-3 · Filing with the job record

The estimate, invoice or dispatch record shows whether the reviewer was ever a customer, and whether the job named in the review was yours or another company with a similar name.

  3. Platform moderation

Google evaluates reports against its prohibited and restricted content policy; most Google removals take 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing.

  4. Days 10-21 · Appeal where the first report is declined

A declined report is not the end. Google provides an appeal route for reviews it decides to keep, and a second filing that cites a different policy ground and better evidence is often what moves it.

  5. Day 30 (Google) / Day 90 (Yelp & other platforms): refund deadline

Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. No claim or form is required. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of the deadline.

Before you start

What an HVAC company needs before starting a removal

The start form takes a few minutes if you have these four things in front of you. Nothing else is required to open the case.

  1. The exact link to the review or page

On Google, open the review, use the three-dot menu and choose Share to copy its direct link. On Yelp, use the share icon under the review. For a harmful page, paste the full URL from the address bar.

  2. Your business name exactly as it appears on the profile

Copy the company name from the Google listing. Multi-location operators need the specific branch that carries the review.

  3. Why the item breaks the platform's rules

One or two sentences is enough. Typical grounds for an HVAC company: the reviewer never had a service call, the review is about a different contractor, a competitor or former technician posted it, or it accuses a named technician of sabotage with nothing behind it.

  4. Your preferred payment option

Pay upfront: $397 for Google, $697 for Yelp, or $497 for another site or harmful link. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal. Pay upfront. If the specific Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days of payment, we refund the removal fee to your original payment method. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days.

New York rules for HVAC contractors

New York State does not issue a general HVAC contractor license. In New York City, the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection lists central air or heating installation among the residential jobs that need a Home Improvement Contractor license, which is required for work totaling more than $200.

Statewide, residential HVAC installations fall under General Business Law §771, which requires a written, signed contract with the contractor’s contact details, estimated dates, the equipment by make or model and the agreed price.

Any technician who services or disposes of refrigerant equipment must hold EPA Section 608 certification. That certification belongs to the individual, so a homeowner can ask which certified technician did the work.

Our view: a review that says an NYC company installed central air without a license is checkable against the city record. When the record contradicts the claim, that is a factual dispute we document for the platform.

Illinois rules for HVAC contractors

Illinois does not license heating and air conditioning contractors at the state level. In Chicago, a City of Chicago general contractor license from the Department of Buildings is required for most building construction, alteration and repair work, and the city’s free Contractor License Lookup shows current and recently expired licenses.

HVAC jobs over $1,000 in Illinois also fall under the Home Repair and Remodeling Act, which requires a written contract listing the total cost and the business address, plus the state consumer rights pamphlet.

Technicians who handle refrigerant must hold EPA Section 608 certification wherever they work.

Our view: with no state HVAC license, Illinois reviews that say a company was “not licensed” are often wrong on the facts outside Chicago and checkable inside it.

Sources

Texas rules for HVAC contractors

Texas licenses air conditioning and refrigeration contractors through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and each ACR company must employ a licensed ACR contractor at every permanent location. TDLR’s free license search lets anyone check a company or contractor.

Technicians who handle refrigerant also need EPA Section 608 certification, which is a federal requirement separate from the TDLR license.

Our view: in Texas the license record is public and specific. A review that calls a company unlicensed when TDLR shows an active ACR license makes a false statement of fact, and that is the kind of review we document and report under platform policy.

HVAC Contractors review removal FAQs

A review says we told them to replace a system we never inspected. Can it come down?+

A review describing a service call that never happened fails the genuine-experience rule on Google and Yelp. We document the absence of any dispatch, invoice or contact record and file on that basis. Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal.

A homeowner's system failed under the manufacturer's warranty and they blamed our install. Removable?+

The homeowner was a customer, so the review is judged on content. A review that accuses you of a specific false fact, such as skipping a step the permit record shows you completed, has reportable elements. A general complaint about the failure is an opinion and stays. The free scan separates the two.

Can you handle a burst of reviews during a heat wave?+

Each review is its own case at $397 for Google or $697 for Yelp with its own service-specific refund window, and cases can be opened the same day. Operators with several items use the free scan to triage which have a policy basis before paying for any of them.

How long does hvac contractors review removal typically take?+

Most Google removals: 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms: typically 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing. Complex cases involving defamation, legal escalation, coordinated attacks, or many items across platforms are quoted individually through the Custom Care Plan, with their own timeline.

Do you remove legitimate negative reviews?+

No. We only pursue reviews that violate a platform's Terms of Service: fake, off-topic, defamatory, extortive, or conflict-of-interest. Legitimate complaints are addressed via a response strategy, not deletion.

Is this compliant with FTC and platform policy?+

Yes. Every workflow (outreach, invitations, responses, removal appeals) is aligned with the FTC Endorsement Guides and each platform's ToS. We keep audit-ready logs of every action.

What does hvac contractors review removal cost?+

Pay upfront: $397 Google, $697 Yelp, or $497 other sites and harmful links.

What if a removal request is denied?+

We escalate through documented appeal channels. Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal.

Every statistic cited inline on this page is drawn from the following industry sources. Citations remain inline alongside each figure so context stays with the claim.

  1. The policy list a removal report has to cite: fake engagement, off-topic content, impersonation, harassment, personal information and conflicts of interest.

  2. Annual consumer survey on how people find, read and act on local business reviews, including how much weight they give the newest negative reviews.

  3. Federal rule effective October 21, 2024. Bans fake or AI-generated reviews, reviews by insiders presented as customers, and buying positive or negative reviews. This is why removal has to be argued on policy grounds instead of countered with bought reviews.

  4. Google's own documentation of the report route: any review can be reported, only reviews that break a content policy are eligible for removal, and the decision is Google's.

  5. How do I report a review?Yelp for Business Support Center

Yelp states that reported content is evaluated by its moderators and that the evaluation may take several days, with an email sent when it is done.
